The Practice Owner's Guide to Choosing an AI Partner (Not Just a Vendor)
The AI gold rush has produced a thousand agencies with identical websites promising to 'transform your business with AI.' Some are excellent. Many are reselling the same no-code template to every client regardless of fit. Here's how a practice owner — without a technical background — can tell the difference.
Green flags
- They start with your workflow, not their product. A real partner audits how your practice runs before proposing anything.
- They talk about outcomes with numbers. Hours saved, calls answered, cases signed, no-shows reduced — not 'leveraging cutting-edge AI.'
- They integrate with what you have. Your practice management system, EHR, and calendar should stay. Rip-and-replace proposals usually serve the vendor.
- They understand your industry's rules. Legal confidentiality, HIPAA, advertising ethics — if they've never heard of your obligations, they'll automate you into a violation.
- Fixed quotes. Open-ended hourly AI consulting is where budgets go to die.
Red flags
- Guaranteed revenue promises before they've seen your operation.
- No answer to 'who owns the system if we part ways?' (You should.)
- Zero clients in regulated industries when you run a law firm or medical practice.
- Everything is a monthly subscription with no documentation and no training — dependency by design.
The questions that reveal everything
Ask any prospective partner these: *What would you automate first for a practice like mine, and why? What did your last project actually cost, start to finish? Can I speak to a client in my industry? What happens when the AI gets something wrong?* Confident partners love these questions; template shops stumble on all four.
And ask to see the work. Our case studies show real engagement patterns across law, medical, dental, and more — the same transparency we'd want if we were the ones buying. When you're ready to compare us against anyone, the first conversation is free.
